Awaiting The man hurried as best he could for he was short of time. Yet despite his efforts he made little progress. His injured leg had left him a long way behind his friends, who had gone ahead to catch the boat that would take them home. Perhaps they could delay the boat; warn the skipper that he was on his way. Pain surged through him as he tried harder to catch up. Reaching the brow of the last hill, he looked down to the harbour. For a moment, pain gave way to hope. The boat was still docked. In the fading light he managed to see his friends boarding. He could sense their relief and he carried on. The
